Maulana Azad Subhani

Maulana Azad Subhani (1885–1957) was an Islamic scholar, orator, and labor activist from Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh. Educated at Darul Uloom Deoband, he became an active figure in anti-colonial agitation in Kanpur and Lucknow during the early 20th century.

Subhani played a major role in the Khilafat and Non-Cooperation Movements, collaborating closely with Hasrat Mohani and Maulana Azad. In Kanpur, he helped organize industrial textile workers into early trade unions, combining anti-imperialist political action with labor welfare demands.

Imprisoned repeatedly by British colonial authorities for anti-government public speeches, Subhani maintained an active role in Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind, advocating composite nationalism and social justice until his death in Delhi in 1957.
