Indian National Congress Founded

All-India Muslim League Founded

Aga Khan III leads Simla Deputation demanding separate electorates. Muslim League founded in Dhaka.

Silk Letter Conspiracy Begins

Maulana Mahmud Hasan and Obaidullah Sindhi organize a pan-Islamic revolutionary plot against British rule.

Jallianwala Bagh Massacre

Saifuddin Kitchlew's arrest triggers protests leading to the massacre. Over 1,000 unarmed Indians killed by British troops.

Khilafat Movement Launched

Ali Brothers, Maulana Azad, and Hakim Ajmal Khan mobilize millions. Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind formed.

Execution of Ashfaqulla Khan

Hanged at Faizabad Jail at age 27. His poetry and sacrifice inspire generations of revolutionaries.

Khudai Khidmatgar Founded

Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan organizes non-violent Pashtun army — the "Red Shirts" — against British rule.

Civil Disobedience Movement

Maulana Azad arrested. Frontier Gandhi leads mass protests in NWFP. Qissa Khwani Bazaar massacre.

Death of Muhammad Ali Jauhar

Dies in London after Round Table Conference. Buried in Jerusalem per his wish. "I would prefer to die in a free country."

Lahore Resolution

Chaudhry Rahmat Ali and Muslim League demand Pakistan. Maulana Azad opposes partition as Congress president.

1942

Quit India Movement

Azad, Dr. Zakir Hussain, Rafi Kidwai, and thousands imprisoned. Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind supports Congress.

Independence & Partition

Maulana Azad addresses nation on radio. India gains freedom; Azad becomes first Education Minister.
